Event Description:

Please join EBLC's Water, Energy, & Environment Task Force to learn about opportunities for resource recovery from wastewater. Dr. William Tarpeh will share how his team at the Tarpeh Lab is turning liquid waste into a valuable resource. By recovering useful materials from wastewater, such as energy, nutrients, and metals, they are finding smarter, more affordable ways to reduce pollution and make water systems more sustainable. The lab’s work connects detailed chemical research with real-world engineering solutions to improve efficiency, cut costs, and lessen environmental impact.

OUR SPEAKER

Dr. William Tarpeh is an assistant professor of chemical engineering at Stanford University and the Principal Investigator at the Tarpeh Lab, which develops and evaluates novel approaches to resource recovery from “waste” waters. Dr. Tarpeh completed his B.S. in chemical engineering at Stanford and his M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental engineering at UC Berkeley, supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship, and a UC Berkeley Chancellor's Fellowship. He conducted postdoctoral training at University of Michigan in environmental engineering. Dr. Tarpeh is a member of the Bouchet Honor Society, NBCBLK's "28 Under 28" African-American Innovators, and Forbes' "30 Under 30" 2019 Science List.
