Event Description:
Join the East Bay Leadership Council to learn about recent updates on water recycling in California. We will hear about the EBMUD-Central San Recycled Water Feasibility Evaluation, a collaborative effort by the two agencies to evaluate six recycled water project concepts utilizing Central San’s wastewater supply to meet or offset EBMUD’s potable water demands, and new regulations adopted by the California State Water Resources Control Board in 2023 that will allow water systems to treat recycled water and send directly to taps.

OUR SPEAKERS

Sarah Reynolds is an associate engineer in the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Office of Water Recycling, where she is the project manager for two existing industrial recycled water projects and develops planning studies to assess opportunities for expansion of EBMUD’s recycled water program. In her seven years with EBMUD, Sarah has also gained experience in water distribution planning, process engineering, and water rights. Prior to joining EBMUD, Sarah worked at AECOM on water and wastewater planning projects. Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from UCLA.

Dr. Brian Pecson is the Director of Engineering leading Trussell’s Oakland office. He has over 20 years of experience in engineering and public health that allows him to address a variety of complex issues in the treatment of water, wastewater, and recycled water. Dr. Pecson is working on multiple emerging topics including direct potable reuse (DPR), onsite reuse, and contaminated groundwaters. Recently, he has specialized in the development of public health criteria for emerging applications, the evaluation and testing of technologies that meet these criteria, and the design of full-scale treatment systems for both drinking water and recycled water.
