Join the East Bay Leadership Council as we kickoff the 2023 East Bay Leadership Series presented by Kaiser Permanente with an event featuring the Founder & CEO of Moms Demand Action, Shannon Watts.
Watts is a mother of five who, the day after the Sandy Hook tragedy, started a Facebook group with the message that all Americans can and should do more to reduce gun violence. The online conversation turned into a nationwide grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that protect people from gun violence. Moms Demand Action, together with its partner, Everytown for Gun Safety, now has over 8 million supporters.
In addition to her full-time volunteer work with Moms Demand Action, Watts is an active board member of Emerge America, one of the nation's leading organizations for training women to run for office, and Advance Peace, a community-based organization that works to end cyclical and retaliatory gun violence in urban neighborhoods by investing in the development, health, and well-being of those at the center of the crisis.
Through her live remarks and Q&A we will discuss her experience leading a national advocacy organization, where the movement stands today, and what we can do to create an East Bay free of gun violence.
