About the Senator
Senator Jerry McNerney was elected to the Senate in November 2024, after serving 16 years in the U.S. Congress. His district includes Alameda County’s Tri-Valley area and all of San Joaquin County.
McNerney served in Congress from 2006–2023, where he was a member of several Congressional committees, including the Veterans Affairs Committee, the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and the Committee on Energy and Commerce. He also chaired the Artificial Intelligence Caucus, the Congressional Grid Innovation Caucus, and the WiFi Caucus. He authored the AI in Government Act.
During his time in Congress, McNerney was a leading advocate for regional transportation solutions, including advancing ValleyLink — the proposed rail connection linking the Tri-Valley to BART and the Central Valley — helping strengthen the economic and mobility ties between the East Bay and San Joaquin County.
In the California State Senate, McNerney chairs the Revenue and Taxation committee and serves on key committees focusing on veteran affairs, budget & fiscal review, energy & environmental protections, and agriculture.
He also is a member of the Bay Area Caucus, the California Technology and Innovation Caucus, and the Delta Protection Commission.
